I enjoyed this episode.
Note, I may be wrong, but I was looking at polymorph and I think you may have missed the last part of the effect. Once the snake died it should have returned to Redthorn with his remaining hit points with any excess damage in the polymorphed form carrying over to original form (Redthorn).
Polymorph doesn’t work that way, but the story trumps it big time. Beautifully done Dungeon Patrol!
